It’s been said that a man’s integrity is been justified by the strength of his words. This is a good trait of a dictator. By and large, the great literary giant with his level of intellectual sagacity would have wished he never verbalised his idea of tearing his green card, if and only if Mr. Trump emerges the winner. But as his attempt to withdraw his statement would not only bellitle him, it would go a long way to affect his stands on issues as regards the economy of Nigeria, where his words are highly potent and accordly revered.
Professor Wole Soyinka has confirmed that he will keep his word and tear his green card, on the day Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45thpresident of the USA.Soyinka made the vow last week, while giving a speech to students of Oxford University in England.
According to the literary icon:“If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that.“THE MOMENT THEY ANNOUNCE HIS VICTORY, I WILL CUT MY GREEN CARD AND START PACKING UP.”
Did Donald Trump’s victory surprise you?Not altogether. The possibility was looming nearer and nearer, getting scarier and scarier. What do you think Trump’s victory means for the world, especially Nigeria? Do you think the victory of Trump, who threatened to build a Wall is a coincidence coming exactly 27 years to the day the Berlin Wall came down?Trump’s Wall is already underconstruction. Walls are built in the mind, and Trump has erected walls, not only acrossthe mental landscape of America but across the global landscape. I am glad you referred to the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall – that was one anniversary in reversal!
Will you thrash your green card, as you reportedly said you would?Come January 20, 2017, watch my WOLEXIT! (Donald Trump will be sworn-in as the45th President of the United States of America on Friday, January 20, 2017)
(I bet you some Nigerians would be like, if you tear your card, how does that affect the price of garri and beans in the market?)..
